Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Ontoolbox operates the Service as a free web-based tool for compressing images and videos. In Phase 1, no user account is required.

2. Scope

This policy applies to the international Ontoolbox website and related subdomains (such as api.ontoolbox.net) used to deliver the Service. If we launch separate regional sites in the future, they may publish their own policies.

3. Information we process

We may process the following categories of information:

• Uploaded files: images (JPG, PNG, WebP) and videos (MP4, MOV, WebM) that you submit for compression.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, timestamps, and server logs needed to operate and secure the Service.
• Usage data: pages visited, compression events, error codes, and approximate usage counts (including daily limits).
• Cookies and similar technologies: used for analytics and advertising as described below.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the compression Service.
• Enforce usage limits, prevent abuse, and protect the security of our systems.
• Measure traffic and product performance through analytics.
• Display advertisements on the global site where enabled.
• Comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.

5. File storage and deletion

Uploaded files are processed solely to perform compression. We do not provide cloud storage or long-term file hosting.

Uploaded files are removed from our servers within about one hour after processing completes (or sooner when cleanup jobs run). Download links expire after that period.

6. Where data is stored

The Service is hosted on cloud infrastructure in the Singapore or Hong Kong region. Temporary files and operational data are stored and processed in that environment for the purpose of delivering the Service.

7. Third-party services

We use third-party providers that may set cookies or receive limited technical information:

• Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — website usage analytics. See Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
• Google AdSense — advertising on the global site. See Google’s advertising policies: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
• Cloud and infrastructure providers — hosting, networking, and security.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect analytics or ad personalization but should not block core compression features.

8. Legal bases and your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal data, or to object to processing and to data portability.

Because we delete uploaded files quickly and do not require accounts in Phase 1, we may not be able to retrieve file content after deletion. You may contact us to exercise privacy rights regarding other personal data we hold.

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, our legal bases may include performance of the Service, legitimate interests (security, analytics, improvement), and consent where required (e.g. non-essential cookies).

You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including HTTPS, access controls, and automated deletion of uploaded files. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
